Spaceman 5K

Our Space Man 5k date coincides with the week of the 55th Anniversary of the Apollo 1 tragedy during which astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee perished while training for their upcoming mission.

Grissom was the second American in space, White was the first American to walk in space and Chaffee was preparing for his first space flight.

A summary of their mission and one of the darkest days in space history is here:

The 2nd Annual Space Man 5k is an out and back course held in historic Cocoa Village and entirely along the beautiful Indian River Lagoon.  The race coincides with the Space Coast Triathlon and is limited to 200 total entrants.
